SID DICKENS COLLECTION
My next collection I want to share with y’all is my Sid Dickens block collection. They are created by an artist by the name of Sid Dickens from Canada. Each season/year he comes out with new designs. Some designs have been available since he started and others are special editions and others get retired.
Once a block is retired, it raises in value. Honestly, I don’t really care about the value and couldn’t tell you which ones of mine are retired or are worth more than others. I just love them. They are priceless to me. They are always a conversation piece.
I first saw a collection of Sid Dickens blocks on display at a gift store in Fredericksburg. The first time I saw them that day, I could have stared at that wall for hours. It was so intriguing to me. When we left that day, I told my husband I wanted to start collecting the blocks.
Fast forward about 6 months to Christmas time. As I opened one of my last gifts, it was my first Sid Dickens block! My husband picked it out for me all on his own and I was so surprised. On the back, each block has a title with the meaning in poem-like wording. The artwork image on the front not only speaks, but the writings/descriptions on the back give it even more life.
I LOVE SENTIMENTAL GIFTS. I am more interested in the thought behind the gift more than the actual gift. One of my favorite gifts my husband has ever gotten me (besides the blocks of course) is a list of the 30 reasons why he loves me on my 30th birthday. He sent me on a scavenger hunt and each place had an envelope and inside it had a reason why he loved me and a clue to where the next reason. It was so special to me and I love to reread them every so often. My love language is words of affirmation, so it explains why I love thoughtful words so much.
Each block he has given to me correlated with whatever special occasion/holiday in which it was given. I think I have picked out maybe 5 out of the 28. Other than those I picked, he’s picked out the rest. It’s always a surprise to see what he chooses. He has done very well, knows me well, and what I would like. The photo below is my full current collection.
My favorite thing about these blocks is the eclectic nature to them. I love how they are all so different yet look so perfect when put together. Every season of our life is unique in its own way, we have mountains and valleys, times of pause and time of movement; yet, when all the chapters of our life are woven together, they make a beautiful story. What’s your story?
Keep redeeming!
